About Central Arbitration Committee CAC
At the Central Arbitration Committee, we help trade unions, employers and employees, by providing a fair and open process for resolving collective issues within the workplace. Whether you are a trade union seeking recognition for collective bargaining purposes, an employer seeking to derecognise a trade union, or an employee looking to set up information and consultation arrangements at work, we can help. There is no charge for the majority of services that we provide. Our overriding objective is to encourage and promote fair and efficient practices in the workplace and we do this by helping parties to reach a voluntary agreement over issues in dispute. The CAC is not on anyone’s side – we are here to assist wherever we can, but where this is not possible, we will consider the parties' respective views and make a formal, binding decision. Our expertise is based on the experience of those appointed to sit as members of the CAC. These members are recruited through open and fair competition and come from diverse backgrounds across academia and industry. The CAC is also on YouTube where you'll be able to access clear, straightforward explainer videos on trade union recognition, collective bargaining, and workplace dispute resolution, all in one place.
