Black nonprofits stand as a formidable force in a world rife with societal challenges. They are armed with strategies that champion racial equality and justice, while validating the profound experiences of Black communities. But yet, only a mere fraction of the $450 billion donated by compassionate Americans every year finds its way into the hands of Black organizations. The evidence spans across various sources of funding, from individual donors to corporate giants and institutional grantmakers. Black-founded organizations are left grappling with a persistent lack of support and routine disinvestment, hindering their ability to reach their full potential. Giving Gap was founded in September 2020 by Christina Lewis, Stephanie Ellis-Smith and David Setiadi to shatter the barriers that impede growth and prosperity of these vital organizations. Giving Gap is the largest free searchable platform of Black-founded nonprofits in the United States. Our mission is to empower donors and funders to actively explore and support Black-founded nonprofits by connecting them to causes they care about. Together, we can ensure that Black nonprofits receive the recognition, resources, and opportunities they deserve to forge a brighter future for us all.
