Hope for Tomorrow is the UK’s mobile cancer care charity. We design, build and maintain specialist mobile units that bring cancer care into the heart of communities—so patients can be treated in places closer to where they live and work. Every 75 seconds, someone in the UK is told they have cancer. For around 420,000 people each year, life changes in an instant—and where cancer care happens can make a real difference. Cancer care can be exhausting—physically, emotionally and practically. Our mission is to help people fit cancer care into their lives, not the other way around. In 2007, we launched the world’s first mobile cancer care unit. For more than two decades, we have led the way in bringing high-quality cancer services out of hospital and into local communities. We currently operate 14 mobile units in partnership with nine NHS trusts, travelling to convenient locations such as community hospitals, garden centres and supermarket car parks. On board, experienced teams can support up to 25 patients a day, to the same clinical standards as hospital care. By receiving treatment and other cancer services locally, patients can save time, travel costs and reduce stress—without long waits or navigating large hospital sites. Instead, they are welcomed into a calm environment where nurses can often care for patients at a ratio of two patients to one nurse. On average, our mobile units deliver more than 26,000 patient visits each year across areas including Gloucestershire, South Wiltshire, Kent, Suffolk, Essex, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Greater Manchester. In Greater Manchester, our lung health assessment unit is taking lung health checks into harder-to-reach communities, helping to diagnose lung cancer earlier and improve outcomes for patients. Hope for Tomorrow receives no statutory funding. We rely entirely on generous donations and fundraising to keep our fleet on the road—bringing treatment, diagnosis and screening into local communities.
