The Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona (IBMB) is a public interdisciplinary research centre of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) devoted to the understanding of major molecular mechanisms sustaining life with significant biomedical and biotechnological implications. Housed within the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) on the University of Barcelona Pedralbes Campus, IBMB is committed to excellence in basic science giving priority to interdisciplinary research. Although, research within IBMB has essential implications to numerous diseases areas including cancer, brain disorders, aging and rare diseases. Research at IBMB is carried out by 27 scientific groups organized in four different departments covering the areas of Structural Biology, Molecular Genomics, Developmental Biology and Cell Biology. In addition, IBMB offers a wide range of cutting-edge in-house core facilities and services technologies. IBMB researchers also enjoy access to the service units and technology platforms provided by the PCB and the University of Barcelona, as well as various interaction with local and international institutions. Around 110 scientists (including PhD, Master and undergraduate students), technical and administrative staff from 11 different countries work at the Institute. Notably, female researchers at IBMB maintain a very high level of scientific competitiveness reaching 42% of the group leaders.
