About National Petroleum Council
The National Petroleum Council (NPC) is a federally chartered advisory committee established in 1946 to provide advice to the U.S. Secretary of Energy on matters related to oil and natural gas. Our members, appointed by the Secretary, represent a cross-section of the industry, including producers, refiners, service companies, pipelines, and energy technology providers, along with academic, environmental, Tribal, and public-interest voices. The Council’s role is strictly advisory. We do not set policy or lobby; instead, we deliver independent, fact-based analysis, findings, and recommendations on key energy issues to help inform national policy discussions. Our studies explore topics as requested by the Secretary of Energy; recent studies include Reducing GHG Emissions from the U.S. Natural Gas Supply Chain, Harnessing Hydrogen, Progress and Actions to Increase Supply and Improve Resilience, and America's Evolving Oil and Natural Gas Transportation Infrastructure. For nearly eight decades, the NPC has worked to ensure that government decisions are informed by real-world insight from across the oil and gas industry.
