About Pump For Joy

Pump for Joy is building single-use, biodegradable components for the parts of breast pumps that touch milk, with a focus on breast flange components used during pumping. Today, pumping parents rely on reusable plastic parts that must be cleaned multiple times a day, often in workplaces, public restrooms, or other environments that aren’t designed for safe or dignified milk handling. As a result, many parents rely on workarounds like storing used pump parts in refrigerators between sessions. Pump for Joy exists to address this gap. Our work is intentionally focused on the milk-contact components of the pumping system: the parts where hygiene matters most and where the burden on parents is highest. By designing these components to be single-use and biodegradable, we aim to allow parents to pump away from home without needing access to sinks, shared fridges, or cleaning supplies. We are building this system with careful attention to safety, hygiene, and compatibility with the breast pumps parents already use, guided by how pumping actually happens in real life.
