About Somebody Cares Scotland
Founded in 2002, Somebody Cares SCIO is a vital community organisation serving Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, dedicated to supporting those facing challenging times. Our mission is to improve lives, alleviate poverty, and provide second chances through a range of services focused on local investment and enterprise, and supporting health and wellbeing. At the heart of our operations is our generous food bank, one of the most comprehensive in Aberdeen. We provide food parcels for six days, extending to 12 days during the Christmas season. Our food parcels are tailored to meet various dietary requirements, including vegan, vegetarian, and halal options, ensuring a balanced diet based on the eat well plate. We take pride in offering meals that young people can prepare themselves, which is particularly valuable for families affected by substance addiction. Annually, we provide over 170,000 meals and furnish around 700 homes. Our services extend beyond basic nutrition. We combat clothing poverty, furnish homes, and provide reintegration support for various vulnerable groups, including addiction sufferers, victims of domestic violence, individuals with mental or physical illnesses, asylum seekers, refugees, ex-offenders, and at-risk youth. Somebody Cares is also committed to environmental sustainability, actively working to reduce landfill waste. We operate retail shops and monthly sales, which not only generate income for our operations but also create job opportunities and volunteer positions in various capacities. In 2025, we won Large Organisation of the Year at the Celebrate Aberdeen awards π
