Building Stronger Futures
About British Steel
British Steel is one of the leading steel manufacturers in Europe, producing up to 3 million tonnes of quality steel products every year. From this, we manufacture more than 1,450 different specifications of steel that gets rolled into rail, sections, special profiles and wire rod. We have manufacturing facilities across the UK and Europe, supplying premium products around the world. We also have a global network of regional sales teams, so our global customers receive local service. In April 2025, the UK Government took control of British Steel to safeguard the continued operation of our blast furnaces. This intervention secured more than 4,000 jobs and maintained the UK’s sovereign capability to produce primary steel, made directly from raw materials rather than recycled scrap. At British Steel, our mission is to manufacture and supply high quality steel products that support a modern, sustainable economy, delivered responsibly, competitively and with pride to customers across the UK and around the world. We're a company with a proud heritage, a passion to build stronger futures and a focus on progress. Our past has always been important to us but now we’re looking to the future as a trusted partner in steelmaking, building enduring confidence in British Steel while helping to shape a safer, stronger, more sustainable future. Our steel has been, and continues to be, fundamental in creating iconic, awe-inspiring structures around the world. It helps people travel, work, eat and socialise every day. More importantly, it helps keep us safe.
