About One Heart Project

Most youth who leave the juvenile justice system end up back in it — the national recidivism rate is around 70%. For youth in One Heart Project programs in Texas, it's 12%. The difference isn't a program. It's a person. Every year, 1.3 million teens are arrested in the U.S., and more than 100,000 are housed in correctional facilities. Most never get a second chance. One Heart Project exists to change that — equipping justice-involved and at-risk youth with the skills, tools, and healthy relationships they need to navigate life successfully. Our holistic model includes social & emotional intelligence education, one-on-one mentoring, life skills and vocational training, employment opportunities, and reentry services. We serve youth in state and county correctional facilities, probation, alternative education settings, and public and private schools. And the model works. Beyond the Texas outcomes, a multi-year independent study by the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Juvenile Justice Institute found that the longer youth stay in our program, the better their behavioral outcomes.
