Limehouse Project Ltd is hosting a workshop by Tower Hamlets Council to shape the Voluntary and Community Sector Main Grants Programme and Corporate Equality Plan.

Established in 1984 by a former Head Teacher, a Councillor and a local Community Worker, the Limehouse Project continues to strive to meet the needs of local communities throughout Tower Hamlets. We work on a simple ethos established by our three founders: through the empowering of one, we can empower an entire community. The Limehouse Project (LHP) has worked to respond to the needs of minority communities throughout the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for over 25 years. Our aim is to alleviate the difficulties and help realise the aspirations of the most disadvantaged members of local communities, with an especial focus on women, all peoples of ethnic minority origin and those for whom English is not a first language. Our growing successes and achievements are dependent upon our ability to provide: - Information, advice and advocacy support in our clients’ own languages; - Education, training, employment and volunteering opportunities geared towards helping individuals gain the confidence and skills they need to play a full role in their social and economic environments; and - A range of educational and recreational activities / experiences for families, children, older people and others geared towards enhancing their life experiences but which would otherwise be beyond their reach. We seek to empower marginalised individuals by researching, identifying, and establishing new pathways to help them overcome the personal and socio-economic barriers to self-empowerment, physical and mental well-being and the establishment of stable, fulfilled lives. We understand that by enabling and supporting an individual, we have the potential to strengthen a family from within, thereby creating stronger communities and a collectively peaceful society.
